During the summer months, the river offers lots of fun. The lodge is directly on the water and, at nine feet of depth here, the Shenandoah offers excellent swimming and fishing right out the back door. Or you might want to relax in one of our inner tubes. If you're looking for exercise, you can canoe or kayak as far as two miles upstream. There's plenty to do on the water!
For games and sports, two parks are nearby. The Town of Woodstock Park (4 miles drive) has public tennis and basketball courts and a swimming pool (with lifeguards), which is excellent for very small children. North on Route 11 is the Shenandoah County Park, which has softball fields and picnic areas. The county park is a great place for the dog to run.
Two public golf courses are within driving distance, both 20 miles away. Both Bryce Resort (Basye, 18 holes) and The Shenvalee (New Market, 27 holes) offer championship golf at very reasonable rates. Call ahead for tee times.
The Shenandoah Valley is known around the world for its beautiful fall foliage. You won't find fall color more dramatic anywhere, we promise. Whether you want to relax with a book and enjoy the sounds of nature or get a workout on the mountain, Fall and Spring are popular in the Shenandoah.
For hikers, the Massanutten Mountain is straight above the lodge. For some of the most spectacular views in Virginia, hike (or drive) the hairpin curves to the top of the mountain and climb the Woodstock Tower. On a clear Fall or Spring day, you can see for 30 miles! If you still have the energy, hike the trails along the top of the mountain before heading for the comforts of home, just a mile below.
Hang-gliders are often seen launching from Devil's Rock Garden, found just up the mountain and near the Tower. It's a beautiful sight!
If you're looking to get away - really away - the lodge is extremely secluded in the winter. Whether you're snuggling by the fire on a romantic getaway or just escaping the phones, we offer our lowest rates during the winter months.
Skiers destined for Bryce Resort (Basye, 30 miles south and west) looking for a place a little closer to town can use the lodge for a fraction of the cost of staying at the resort.
